Chester Zoo is the UK's number one charity zoo, with over 7000 animals and 500 different species, including some of the most endangered species on the planet. With more than one million visitors every year, the zoo - a conservation charity - is an all-year round favourite attraction for people of all ages!

There are so many things to see and do at Chester Zoo, such as the Realm of the Red Ape enclosure - a new home for the Zoo's critically endangered Sumatran and Bornean orang-utans. Come and see youngsters, Budi and Utara, in their new tropical environment, along with a wide variety of Indonesian Forest species including four noisy gibbons, a variety of birds, insects and reptiles, which includes one of the longest Reticulated Pythons in the world.

Experience the sights and sounds of Assam, with the herd of Asian Elephants, Hornbills, Tree Shrews and rare fish inside Elephants of the Asian Forrest.

Cafe Tsavo
the eco-friendly cafeteria where visitors can eat under the watchful eyes of some of the animals including rhinos, mongoose and warthogs, and The Twilight Zone which is the largest free-flight bat zone in Europe, and is now also home to the Livingstone's Fruit Bat - one of the world's largest bats.

The children's Fun Ark is a big hit with children of all ages and the zoo's award-winning gardens are justly famous, with beautiful formal bedding throughout Spring and Summer, winter bedding and Christmas decorations and appropriate planting in all the animal houses.

New for 2008
Philippine Crocodiles -
This freshwater crocodile, found only in the Philippine islands, is one of the most threatened crocodile species in the world. Their new enclosure, located within the Tropical Realm will be ready for Summer.

Cheetahs - The world's fastest land mammal, the cheetah, is returning to the collection. A breeding group have joined the Asian Steppe area of the Zoo, in an enclosure that has been developed in a style consistent with Central Asia, from where this rare type of Cheetah originates.

African Aviaries - The Tsavo area of the Zoo will soon be home to a number of African bird species. The aviary will be a walkthrough enclosure, where visitors will have the opportunity to come face to feather with a wide variety of beautifully coloured African birds and will be open to visitors in the late summer.

There are so many things to see and do at Chester Zoo, such as the Elephants of the Asian Forest enclosure - a new home for the Zoo's elephants. Delve into the sights and sounds of Assam, with the herd of ten Asian elephants, Hornbills, Tree Shrews and rare fish. Come and see elephant calf, Raman, born in November 2006, exploring his new surroundings and young giraffe 'Molly', together with the Zoo's many other young arrivals.

Also new - Cafe Tsavo the eco-friendly cafeteria where visitors can eat under the watchful eyes of some of the animals including rhinos, mongoose and warthogs, and The Secret World of the Okapi enclosure which is home to the elusive Okapi.

Coming Soon - Realm of the Red Ape
Visit this spectacular new attraction, opening Spring 2007. Come and see the Zoo's Bornean and Sumatran orang-utans, including two youngsters, Budi and Utara, in their new tropical environment, along with a wide variety of Indonesian Forest species including gibbons, reptiles and birds as well as indigenous plants, trees and shrubs.

Experience the largest free-flight bat zone in Europe, now home to the Livingstone's Fruit Bat - one of the world's largest bats. Watch in awe as 300 Seba's Bats and Rodrigues Fruit Bats, whizz past, plus over 120 new baby bats - 'pups' - gaining their flying wings! At your feet, Red-tailed Catfish swim with Freshwater Stingrays. Watch out too for the Turkish Spiny Mice and the Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches!

The 110-acre Zoo is open all year, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 10am. Last entry and closing times vary with the seasons. Car parking is free. Restaurants, shops, monorail and summer time boat bus. Facilities for disabled visitors, including self-drive electric scooters and wheelchairs.
