Baby Meerkats
The Palms Tropical Oasis welcomes three new baby Meerkats The male and female Meerkats, Pula and Sebrula of the Palms Tropical Oasis, Nantwich became proud parents of three new baby Meerkats on New Years Eve. The couple, who were only recently aquainted at the Palms Tropical Oasis after being thrown out by their previous Meerkat families, were quick to make a start on building a family for themselves. Keepers and staff are over the moon with the new arrivals. David Heath, Marketing Assistant said, "This was great news to start the year, they're so adorable". However, the two lovers are not showing any signs of stopping there, and keepers at the Palms are sure there will be more additions to the growing 'gang' before long. Notes: … A group of Meerkats are called a 'gang' or 'mob' … Meerkats are usually found in the Kalahari Desert of southern Africa … Meerkats can breed every 2 months but usually 2-3 times a year Baby Meerkats are born with their eyes closed and hardly any fur. At 4-6 weeks the babies learn to forage for insects with the grown ups. At 6-16 weeks they are weaned off milk and with help from the adults find their own food. |
