Something Scary
Tatton's Birdlife Has Something Scary to Crow about!
Whether Bullfinch or Bunting, Coal Tit or Crow, Tatton's feathered friends will be quivering in their feathered feet during February Half Term, when the gardens brace themselves for an army of silent invaders.

For from Tuesday 12th February to Sunday 17th February, as seed sowing time approaches, Tatton's Scarecrow Family will be setting up camp in the Kitchen Gardens. Visitors will be able to meet a number of different bird-botherers made by our gardeners, from the elegantly turned out Lord and Lady Egerton to the shabby chic of the Gardener scarecrow. Who knows where they will appear!

Children can choose their favourite scarecrow by leaving a 'peg' in their flowerbed and learn which one is the most environmentally friendly! And why not join in with a 'Hunt for The Scared Crows' in the gardens? Cheeky crows have stolen fruit from the Egertons' Kitchen Gardens and have hidden away from the scarecrows in trees throughout the gardens.

On Tuesday 12th February there is also a special day of additional activities. Help us to add to Tatton's Garden Family by learning how to make and dress a scarecrow. Bring some old clothes with you and see them modelled on our new scarecrows. Have your face painted and get creative with the scarecrow collage, using seeds and natural materials from the gardens!

Janet Bradshaw, Chief Scarecrow commented 'Scarecrows do a fantastic job protecting our tender crops from the greedy crows.

So if you like your garden greens and summer strawberries, come and join in the activities and help us keep our fruit and vegetables protected. Children can make their visit even more fun by dressing up as a scarecrow and gaining FREE entry to the Gardens!'

Creating the scarecrows has been a real labour of love for Janet - her hand stitched and elaborately detailed scarecrows have to be seen to be believed!

Meet the Scarecrow Family takes place in Tatton's Gardens from Tuesday 12th to Sunday 17th February (11am to 4pm, last entry 3pm). The Special Activity Day takes place on Tuesday 12th February (11am-4pm, last entry 3pm).
