Sketches From the Front
![]() New exhibition at the Salt Museum Opens on Friday 12 September 'Sketches From the Front' - A First World War exhibition 'Sketches From the Front' is a fascinating collection of sketches and paintings by 'Hutch' aka WH Hutchings (1885-1962). He was born in Liverpool and trained at Liverpool School of Art. During the First World War he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps and many of the sketches in the exhibition relate to this period of time. After the war, he moved to Northwich and worked as a clerk at Brunner Mond (later ICI) for 49 years. He was a founder member and former chairman of Northwich Society of Artists. The exhibition also includes examples of his later work - local scenes, portraits and even cartoons of prominent Northwich notables! This will be the first time that these sketches (now housed at Cheshire Record Office) have been on public display. A collection of artefacts and ephemera from the First World War period loaned by local people and Chester Military Museum will accompany the sketches as well as films about the conflict. The exhibition runs until 11 January 2009 and admission is free (there is a small charge for visitors who wish to see the rest of the museum). A programme of talks and events will accompany the exhibition. Open: Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm; 2-5pm at weekends The Salt Museum, 162 London Road, Northwich, Cheshire, CW9 8AB.
